Collecting gift messages and buyer details at checkout
Add the Wunder blocks to your cart and product pages so the message, the sender's name and their phone number arrive with the order instead of in a note.
Shopify’s checkout captures who is paying and where the parcel goes. For gift delivery you also need the message, and you need the sender’s own phone number — because the phone number in the shipping address belongs to the recipient.
Most florists solve this with the cart note, which is unstructured and easy to miss. Wunder Delivery gives you proper fields instead.
The three blocks
| Block | Where it goes | What it collects | Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buyer details | Cart page | Sender’s first name, last name and phone | Every plan |
| Gift message | Cart page | One message for the whole order | Every plan |
| Card message | Product page | A message for that individual product | Growth and above |
You can use any combination. Each block stands alone.
If a customer only ever sends one order to one address, the cart-level Gift message is enough and it is on every plan.
The product-page Card message is for the customer buying three arrangements for three different people in one checkout. Each product carries its own message and each prints its own card. That block needs Growth or above.
Turning the widgets on
The blocks arrive with the app but are not visible until you place them in your theme.
- In Wunder Delivery, go to Settings → Widgets. Every block has a link that opens your theme editor in the right place.
- In the theme editor, enable the Cart Widget app embed for the cart blocks, or the Product Widget app embed for the product-page card message.
- Add the blocks you want to the cart template and product template.
- Drag them where you want them. Near the checkout button works well for the cart blocks.
- Save.
Labels, help text, placeholders, error messages and the character counter format are all settings in the theme editor. Nothing is hard-coded, so you can reword or translate without touching code.
How each block behaves for the shopper
Buyer details is required by default. Fields show a red asterisk, and trying to check out with them empty blocks the checkout button and scrolls to the first problem.
The phone field works like Shopify’s own checkout phone field: type a few digits and a country flag appears, opening a full country list. Picking a country rewrites the number with its dialling code and drops a leading zero where that country uses one. A local number displays without the code but always saves with it.
Gift message is opt-in by default — a small “Add a gift message” checkbox reveals the text box. If you would rather it was always visible, turn that off in the block’s settings. If you set a character limit, a counter appears.
Card message on the product page attaches a message to that one product as it goes into the cart. Order three arrangements for three different people and each carries its own message.
Shopify does not allow apps to add fields to checkout steps on most plans. The cart page is the last place you control, which is why the blocks live there.
Working alongside your delivery date app
The Wunder blocks save their values under their own names, chosen not to collide with Zapiet’s or any other app’s. Running a delivery-date app and these blocks together is a normal setup and needs no special configuration.
Showing the fields in the order editor
Settings → Widgets has a Show in order editor checkbox for each block. It controls whether those fields appear when your staff edit an order in the Shopify admin.
It has no effect on what shoppers see — that is your theme's business. If you never placed a block on your storefront, you can untick its card here to keep the order editor tidy.
