Auto Print is not printing
Nothing is coming out of the station, or too much came out at once. The checks, in the order worth doing them.
Work through these in order.
1. Is QZ Tray running on the station computer?
If QZ Tray is not installed and running on the station computer, nothing will print, however well PrintNode is configured.
But do not change that computer's Print Engine setting to fix it. Auto Print is a separate application that cannot read that setting at all. A computer left on the PrintNode default can be auto-printing perfectly — switching the engine only changes that machine's manual printing, for nothing.
2. Is the station actually open?
Auto Print runs in its own application window. If it was closed — or the computer was restarted, or slept — it is not running.
There is no application on those browsers. If the tab was closed, printing stopped. There is no window or taskbar icon to notice missing. Use Chrome or Edge.
3. Is this the designated computer?
Only one computer per shop can be the station. On any other machine the button is disabled and reads “Auto Print on [name]”. Check Settings → Print → Auto Print to see which computer is designated, and change it if that machine is no longer the right one.
4. Is the certificate in place?
An unattended station cannot answer permission prompts, so silent printing must be configured. If it is missing, the settings card shows a warning that Auto Print is paused on that computer rather than failing quietly.
5. Is the order too old?
The window in Settings → Print → Auto Print is 1, 2, 6, 12 or 24 hours. An order older than it will not print automatically, by design — print it by hand from the Print page.
6. Is the internet up?
There is no offline mode. Nothing prints while the connection is down, and it catches up when the connection returns.
Too much printed at once
When the station comes back after being off, everything within the window prints. With the 24-hour default, a computer left off overnight will print the whole of the previous day when it starts.
Shorten the window if that is more paper than you want.
Checking what happened
The dashboard’s Recent activity list shows the last ten print events with a Retry on failures. The print station’s own screen keeps a longer history — open it there if you need to look further back than ten.
Rows reading “Waiting for print station” mean an order queued while no station was running. Those print when a station opens, if they are still within the freshness window.
